NUJ FCT Seeks Strategic Partnership With African Centre LSD To Boost Journalists’ Leadership and Ethics

As the demands on Nigerian journalists grow beyond reporting into leadership and accountability, the NUJ FCT Council is stepping up to equip its members with new skills and mentorship.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council has opened talks on a strategic partnership with the African Centre for Leadership, Strategy and Development (Centre LSD) to strengthen capacity building, leadership training and mentorship for journalists in the Federal Capital Territory.

The move was formalised on Tuesday during a courtesy visit by the NUJ FCT leadership to the Centre LSD headquarters in Abuja.

Receiving the delegation, the Centre’s Executive Director, Mr Monday Osasah, expressed readiness to collaborate with NUJ FCT in advancing leadership development, accountability and good governance.

Mr Osasah said the Centre, founded in 2003, was established to empower citizens to transform society by addressing gaps in strategic leadership, effective strategy and appropriate leadership.

The Executive Director, disclosed that the Centre runs a free leadership school, with 3,211 beneficiaries trained so far across centres in Benin, Warri, Port Harcourt and Abakaliki, alongside tailor-made international programmes.

He added that the Centre is ready to support training, retraining and mentorship for NUJ members.

Responding, NUJ FCT Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, said the Union is open to partnerships that promote ethical journalism, leadership development and good governance, noting that these align with the media’s role in accountability and public enlightenment.

She called for a practical framework to guide media engagement and long-term collaboration.

Management staff of Centre LSD also outlined areas of mutual benefit, signalling the start of structured cooperation between both organisations.
