OPERATION FANSAN YAMMA: Troops Overrun Bandit Kingpin’s Camp, Neutralise Scores
In a decisive blow against organised banditry, Nigerian troops have taken the fight deep into criminal strongholds, proving that intelligence-led operations can still turn the tide.
Troops of the 8 Division of the Nigerian Army, operating under Sector 2 of Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have stormed the hideout of notorious bandit leader Gwaska Dan Karmi, neutralising scores of terrorists after a fierce gun battle.
The operation followed credible intelligence that more than 100 bandits had converged at the camp to plan coordinated attacks on communities and military supply routes.
After days of surveillance, ground troops, supported by the Nigerian Air Force, intercepted the group on January 31, 2026.
A heavy firefight broke out as the bandits attempted to flank and encircle the troops, but they were overwhelmed by superior firepower. While many were eliminated, others escaped with gunshot wounds as the camp was destroyed.
Air Force assets are conducting interdiction missions to track fleeing remnants, while ground forces maintain control of the area.
The Army confirmed that some soldiers paid the supreme price, and one combat enabler vehicle was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade and caught fire.
The Nigerian Army honoured the fallen and reaffirmed its resolve to dismantle bandit networks and disrupt their supply chains across the region.
