Army Moves To Lock Down Bandit Threat As GOC 8 Division Reassures Sokoto Community

In communities scarred by years of bandit attacks, the mere sight of soldiers can mean the difference between fear and hope.

For Tidibale in Isa Local Government Area of Sokoto State, that hope was rekindled with the arrival of a new army commander.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 8 Division and Commander, Sector 2 Joint Task Force (North West), Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, has made his maiden operational visit to Tidibale, pledging a stronger security presence and sustained military presence to protect residents from bandit threats.

Speaking during the assessment visit, General Koughna said the engagement followed the recent safe return of displaced residents, stressing that the Nigerian Army is determined to restore normalcy and enable farmers to return to their fields without fear.

He disclosed that troops have now been permanently deployed to Tidibale to maintain a robust security presence, monitor movements, and respond swiftly to any emerging threats.

The GOC also assured the community that no part of their land would be surrendered to criminal elements.

General Koughna urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies by promptly reporting suspicious activities, emphasising that peace can only be achieved through collective action.

In response, the Sarkin Arewa of Tidibale, Alhaji Ibrahim, expressed gratitude to the army leadership, describing the visit as timely and morale-boosting.

He said the community now feels more secure and confident in the military’s commitment to lasting peace.

Earlier, the GOC received a comprehensive operational briefing from the Commanding Officer of 26 Battalion, Lieutenant Colonel Nasiru Mustapha, at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Isa, which outlined the current security situation and ongoing counter-banditry operations in the area.

The Nigerian Army reiterated its resolve to safeguard lives and property across the North West while deepening collaboration with local communities for sustainable peace.
