As Sudan marks seven decades of independence, Nigeria has used the moment not only to celebrate history, but to spotlight hope for peace, reconciliation and national rebirth amid ongoing challenges.

Nigeria has congratulated the Republic of Sudan on the 70th anniversary of its independence, describing the milestone as a reflection of the country’s resilience, rich heritage and enduring aspirations for unity and prosperity.

In a press release issued by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja, Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, stated that Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, conveyed warm felicitations to Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mohieldin Salem Ahmed Ibrahim, as well as the Government and people of Sudan.

Nigeria acknowledged Sudan’s significant contributions to Africa’s political, intellectual and cultural development, while commending the strength of the Sudanese people in the face of complex political, economic and humanitarian challenges.

The statement highlighted the long-standing relationship between both countries, rooted in Pan-African solidarity, shared anti-colonial history and a common belief in Africa’s capacity to shape its own future.

Nigeria reaffirmed its support for Sudan’s engagement with regional and international partners, including the African Union and the United Nations, in pursuit of peace and stability.

Nigeria expressed hope that the 70th anniversary would serve as a turning point towards ending the war, fostering reconciliation, strengthening institutions and rebuilding national consensus.
