Seven Journalists Killed In Gombe Crash, Information Minister Mourns ‘Dedicated Voices Of Truth’
A journey meant for celebration has ended in unspeakable tragedy, plunging Nigeria’s media community into mourning after seven journalists lost their lives in a fatal road accident in Gombe State.
The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has expressed deep shock and sorrow over the incident, which occurred on Monday evening in the Gombe South area.
The journalists were returning from a wedding ceremony in the Gombe South Senatorial District, having travelled in solidarity with a colleague from the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA).
Preliminary reports by the Gombe State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Samson Kaura, confirmed that the lone crash was fatal.
Describing the loss as heartbreaking, the Minister said Nigeria had lost courageous and committed professionals who served the public with integrity and dedication.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), the Gombe State Council, and the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased.
The Minister also called for renewed collective efforts to improve safety measures for media practitioners, assuring that the Federal Government stands with the bereaved families and the entire media community in this moment of grief.
