NCDMB Launches Innovation Challenge To Drive Homegrown Technology In Oil, Gas, Renewables

In a bold move to deepen local capacity and stimulate homegrown solutions, the Nigerian Content Development and Monitoring Board (NCDMB) has thrown open its doors to innovators determined to reshape Nigeria’s oil, gas and energy landscape.

The Board has officially commenced the Nigerian Content Research, Innovation and Technology Challenge 2025/2026, inviting individuals, research institutions, academia and industry players to submit innovative proposals aimed at solving critical challenges in the oil and gas sector and its linkage industries.

The competition, which feeds into the NCDMB Technology Innovation and Incubation Centre (TIIC) in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, covers key thematic areas including geological and geophysical studies, local materials substitution, technology development, engineering, health, safety and environment, as well as renewable energy.

Selected proposals will undergo a multi-stage evaluation process, with the top 30 teams receiving mentorship before being narrowed down to 10 and finally five winners.

Successful innovators will pitch to corporate venture capitalists, opening doors to investment, market expansion and commercialisation.

Beyond cash prizes, winners will benefit from mentorship, incubation support and media exposure, while the top 10 participants will be onboarded into the TIIC for further development of their ideas.

The initiative underscores NCDMB’s commitment to driving indigenous innovation, reducing dependence on imported technologies and positioning Nigeria as a hub for energy research and development.
