Fatal Ogun Crash: FRSC Rescues Anthony Joshua As Two Die On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway
In what appeared to be a stark reminder that road crashes spare no one, even global sports icons, a fatal accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Monday, has claimed two lives and left world heavyweight boxing star Anthony Joshua with minor injuries.
The crash occurred around midday near the Sinoma area of Sagamu, Ogun State, involving a black Lexus Jeep conveying Anthony Joshua and a stationary commercial truck.
According to a statement by the Corps Public Education Officer, Federal Road Safety Corps, Headquarters, Abuja Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide, the incident was reported promptly, with operatives arriving at the scene within three minutes to carry out rescue operations and restore traffic flow.
Five adult males were involved in the crash.
Two people died on the spot, one sustained injuries, while two others, including Anthony Joshua, escaped with minor injuries.
The injured victim was taken to the hospital, while the remains of the deceased were deposited at the Livewell Morgue in Sagamu.
The Police Motor Traffic Division has commenced investigations.
Preliminary findings by the FRSC indicate that excessive speed and wrongful overtaking by the Lexus Jeep led to a loss of control, causing it to crash into the stationary truck parked by the roadside.
The Corps described the violations as among the leading causes of fatal crashes on Nigerian highways.
The Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and wished Anthony Joshua and the injured victim a speedy recovery, while reiterating calls for motorists to shun dangerous driving, especially during the festive travel season.
