Motorists Laud FRSC’s Free Water Campaign For Promoting Safety On Highways
At a time when festive travel places extra strain on both motorists and roads, a simple act of care is making a notable difference on Nigeria’s highways.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has earned widespread praise from road users for its Free Water Campaign, an initiative aimed at reducing fatigue and improving alertness during the busy Yuletide season.
The campaign, introduced by the Corps Marshal, Shehu Mohammed, mni, and rolled out across major highways, saw FRSC operatives distributing bottled water to motorists and passengers.
The gesture was designed to help combat dehydration, stress and tiredness, factors often linked to road crashes during long-distance journeys.
Speaking on the initiative, the Corps Marshal described it as a life-saving intervention, noting that road safety goes beyond enforcement.
He stressed that a refreshed and alert driver is less likely to be involved in a crash, adding that the Corps has a responsibility to embrace measures that protect lives, no matter how simple they may appear.
Beyond goodwill, the initiative reflects a people-centred approach to road safety, recognising wellness and human care as key elements of crash prevention, particularly during periods of heavy vehicular movement.
Motorists and passengers commended the FRSC for what many described as a thoughtful and unprecedented move.
Several road users noted that the gesture eased tension on the highways, boosted morale and strengthened public confidence in the Corps.
The water distribution exercise also provided an avenue for safety sensitisation, as FRSC personnel engaged motorists on the dangers of speeding, fatigue driving, overloading and reckless behaviour, common causes of crashes during festive periods.
As festive travel continues nationwide, the FRSC has reassured Nigerians of its commitment to safer roads and safer journeys, urging motorists to remain patient, alert and law-abiding.
