U.S. Boosts Lifesaving Nutrition Efforts In Nigeria With $5 Million Support To UNICEF
In a significant show of international solidarity amid Nigeria’s growing malnutrition crisis, the United States has announced a fresh $5 million contribution to UNICEF to scale up emergency nutrition support for vulnerable children in the country’s northwest.
The funding, provided through the U.S. State Department, is expected to deliver lifesaving assistance to at least 70,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition, a condition that continues to threaten thousands of young lives across the region.
According to the U.S. government, the funds will enable UNICEF to supply ready-to-use therapeutic food, essential medicines, and other critical humanitarian items needed to stabilise and restore affected children to health.
The gesture, officials say, reflects America’s long-standing commitment to humanitarian values and its role as a global leader in responding to crises that endanger the most vulnerable.
UNICEF is set to begin scaling up interventions immediately to reach communities where malnutrition rates remain alarmingly high.
