Soludo Hails Ekwunife, Umeadi, Onunkwo As Anambra Youths Spotlight True Community Role Models

At a time when young people increasingly look to fleeting fame and questionable shortcuts for inspiration, the youths of Anambra State have turned the spotlight in a different direction, towards integrity, service, and hard work.

The Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC) Youths, after a rigorous selection process that began in 2024, have honoured three distinguished personalities as Anambra Community Role Models for 2025: Very Rev. Fr. Basil Ekwunife, High Chief (Dr) Chinedu Umeadi, and His Royal Majesty, Dr Ebuka Onunkwo.

The event, held at the ASTUC Secretariat in the Old Government House, Awka, was presided over by Governor Charles Soludo, represented by the Commissioner for Information, Dr. Law Mefor.

It attracted youth leaders and notable figures from all 179 communities across the state.

Comrade Ken Okoli, President-General of ASTUC Youths, explained that each community initially nominated one candidate, which was later pruned to one per local government area before youth delegates elected one honouree per senatorial zone.

Thus, Umeadi emerged for Anambra Central, Ekwunife for Anambra North, and Onunkwo for Anambra South.

Governor Soludo congratulated the honourees, describing them as individuals who chose diligence, honesty, and service at a time when many resort to “fraudulent or harmful means” to get ahead.

He added that their conduct aligns with the fourth pillar of his administration’s Solution Agenda, centred on moral values and good governance.

Responding, Dr Onunkwo, an APGA aspirant in the August 2025 Anambra South senatorial by-election, pledged continued support for youths through job opportunities, scholarships, widow-support programmes, and the promotion of decent livelihoods.

Rev. Fr. Ekwunife urged young people to embrace hard work and shun the get-rich-quick mentality he linked to crimes such as kidnapping and ritual practices.

Speaking on behalf of High Chief Umeadi, his younger brother assured that the industrialist would remain committed to the virtues that earned him the recognition.
