PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon Earns World Athletics Label

Abuja’s skyline is set to echo with the rhythmic pounding of thousands of determined feet as the PremiumTrust Bank Abuja City International Half Marathon returns for its second edition on December 6, 2025, this time, with a golden distinction.

In what marks a new milestone for Nigerian sports, the marathon has officially received the prestigious World Athletics Label, a recognition that places it among the elite ranks of certified global races.

Even more remarkable is that it earned this label in record time, the fastest in the world’s marathon history, underscoring Nigeria’s growing reputation as a serious player in international athletics.

With the theme “Steady Strides,” this year’s race embodies the balance of endurance and ambition that defines both world-class marathon running and the bold vision behind the event.

Organised by Nilayo Sports Management Limited (NSML) in partnership with PremiumTrust Bank, the race continues to spotlight Abuja as a rising hub for global sports tourism.

Managing Director of NSML, Yetunde Olopade, hailed the collaboration as a groundbreaking moment for Nigeria’s sporting landscape.

According to her, the partnership with PremiumTrust Bank represents “the first-ever true super-partnership” on a sports property of this scale, one that not only sponsors but anchors the entire establishment and global positioning of the marathon.

Equally elated, Dr. Emmanuel Efe Emefienim (CON), Managing Director of PremiumTrust Bank, described the achievement as proof of Nigeria’s capacity to deliver at world-class standards.

“Attaining World Athletics Label status in just the second year validates that our investment is yielding world-class outcomes,” he said, emphasising the bank’s commitment to sports development, community well-being, and excellence.

The 2025 edition is expected to draw elite international runners, top local athletes, and sports enthusiasts from across the globe.

Officials from World Athletics will also be on ground to oversee the competition, a further testament to the race’s growing prestige.

Registration for participants is now open, promising another spectacular celebration of endurance, athleticism, and unity in the heart of Nigeria’s capital city.
