Ekiti To Host Ikogosi 17.5km Road Race As Governor Oyebanji Drives Tourism and Sports Growth

Ekiti State is set to take centre stage in tourism and sports development as the historic town of Ikogosi prepares to host the 2nd Ikogosi 17.5km Road Race on 8 November 2025.

The race, endorsed by Governor Abiodun Oyebanji and organised in partnership with the Ikogosi Marathon Initiative, will attract athletes, tourists and investors from around the world.

With a route stretching from Ilawe’s scenic terrains to the world-famous Ikogosi Warm Spring, the event is designed to showcase Ekiti’s natural beauty, upgraded infrastructure and cultural vibrancy.

Beyond the sporting spectacle, the race is expected to stimulate commerce, boost hospitality, and empower over 500 youths trained as volunteers, while artisans, SMEs and cultural troupes benefit from the global spotlight.

Since assuming office, Governor Oyebanji has prioritised road and power projects, revitalised Ekiti United and Ekiti Queens, and upgraded key sporting facilities as part of his mission to make the state Nigeria’s premier tourism hub.

“Ekiti is not just hosting a race,” the governor affirmed. “We are running ahead to redefine our state as a hub for sports, culture, commerce and tourism.”
