Army Expands Soldiers’ Housing As GOC Commissions New SNCO Quarters In Zamfara

Improving the welfare of troops remains central to building a more motivated and combat-ready military, with quality housing increasingly recognised as a key factor in operational effectiveness.

That commitment was reinforced on Tuesday as the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division, Major General BP Koughna, commissioned a newly constructed 10-unit Senior Non-Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) Quarters at the Headquarters 1 Brigade Cantonment in Gusau, Zamfara State.

The project, executed by the Commander, 1 Brigade, Brigadier General M. Jimoh, is aimed at providing improved accommodation for senior non-commissioned officers and their families in line with the Chief of Army Staff’s Soldiers First Command Philosophy.

Speaking at the commissioning, Maj Gen Koughna praised Brig Gen Jimoh for prioritising troop welfare, stressing that decent accommodation boosts morale, strengthens unit cohesion and enhances operational readiness. He also urged beneficiaries to maintain the facility.

Brig Gen Jimoh said the project recognises the vital role of SNCOs in the Nigerian Army and reflects the leadership’s commitment to improving soldiers’ welfare and force protection.

The ceremony featured the presentation of keys to beneficiaries, exchange of plaques and group photographs, with senior military officers, soldiers and invited guests in attendance.
