Nigeria’s Armed Forces Tighten Grip On Terrorists, Oil Thieves In Sweeping Operations
Insecurity remains Nigeria’s greatest stumbling block to peace and development, but the military is signalling that it will not relent.
From the forests of the North-East to the creeks of the Niger Delta, troops have stepped up pressure on terrorists, bandits, kidnappers and economic saboteurs, recording significant victories in the past week.
According to the Defence Headquarters, troops across multiple theatres killed several insurgents, rescued dozens of kidnapped victims, and dismantled criminal hideouts.
In the North-East, Operation Hadin Kai sustained its offensive against Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters, neutralising terrorists and arresting 26 collaborators, while rescuing abducted persons.
Similarly, in the North-West, troops arrested a notorious terrorist leader, Mallam Abubakar Ahmadu, and freed 14 kidnap victims.
In the North-Central region, security forces raided weapon factories, nabbed kidnap kingpins, and rescued more hostages, while Operation Whirl Stroke tracked down a high-profile kidnapper in Taraba State and intercepted criminals in the FCT.
The South-South theatre recorded major blows against oil thieves, foiling illegal operations worth nearly ₦20 million.
Troops destroyed refining sites, seized stolen crude and arrested suspects. In the South-East, Operation Udo Ka carried out raids in Imo, Enugu and Anambra, recovering arms and liberating kidnapped victims.
Major General Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, commended the troops’ resilience, assuring Nigerians that the Armed Forces remain committed to “denying terrorists, insurgents, bandits, kidnappers and other criminal elements freedom of action in the country.”
