ECOWAS Showcases Trade Potential At Intra-African Trade Fair In Algeria

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has positioned itself as a gateway to investment and trade opportunities at the fourth Intra-African Trade Fair (IATF 2025) held in Algiers, Algeria.

The week-long event, which ran from 4th to 10th September under the theme “Boosting intra-African trade for a sustainable future: innovation, added value and green industrialisation”, attracted over 112,000 visitors from 132 countries, with trade deals worth an estimated US$48.3 billion concluded.

Presided over by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, the fair brought together African and Caribbean leaders, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, who announced that Nigeria will host the next edition in 2027.

At its pavilion, ECOWAS engaged regional and global partners such as GIZ, UNDP, ITC, and Afreximbank, while also showcasing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and trade promotion organisations.

Discussions centred on breaking trade barriers, fostering digital innovation, and strengthening partnerships.

With exhibitors from 48 countries, the IATF reaffirmed its role as Africa’s premier marketplace, linking businesses, investors, and governments while driving forward the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) agenda.
