ECOWAS Hosts Regional Workshop On Human Security In West Africa

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has launched a regional workshop in Abuja, Nigeria, aimed at strengthening human security across the region through coordinated health measures.

Organised by the ECOWAS Early Warning Directorate (EWD) in collaboration with the ECOWAS Regional Centre for Surveillance and Disease Control (RCSDC), the workshop brings together health analysts from National Early Warning Centres across member states.

The initiative seeks to improve data sharing on epidemics, build skills for early detection of public health threats, and promote the exchange of best practices in disease surveillance.

It will also address broader challenges around health system strengthening and review the data sources used in the ECOWAS Early Warning and Response Network (ECOWARN).

According to organisers, the workshop underscores ECOWAS’ commitment to safeguarding public health and reinforcing regional cooperation in tackling emerging risks to human security.
