Nigeria Police Repatriates Wanted Chinese Gang Leader In Landmark INTERPOL Operation

The Nigeria Police Force has repatriated a high-profile Chinese fugitive, Mr Dai Qisheng, in what is being hailed as a landmark INTERPOL-led operation.

Dai, a notorious gang leader wanted in Guizhou Province for violent organised crimes, fled China in 2024 after a warrant for his arrest was issued.

He was tracked and arrested in Abuja on 8 August 2025 by operatives of INTERPOL’s National Central Bureau (NCB) Abuja.

A week later, on 15 August, he was repatriated to Beijing under an international police-to-police cooperation framework.

The successful operation, carried out in collaboration with INTERPOL NCB Beijing and the Chinese Embassy in Nigeria, underscores Nigeria’s determination not to provide a safe haven for fugitives.

Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olukayode Adeolu Egbetokun, said the move sent a clear warning to criminals worldwide.

“Nigeria will not be a hiding place for fugitives. This arrest and repatriation demonstrate the strength of our international partnerships and the effectiveness of intelligence sharing in tackling transnational crime,” he said.

The Police pledged to strengthen global alliances to counter increasingly complex criminal networks.
