Tragedy Strikes as Fatal Crash Claims Lives Near Ebonyi State University
A tragic road accident in the early hours of Saturday has claimed several lives in front of Ebonyi State University’s Permanent Site Campus, Abakaliki.
The crash, involving a commercial bus travelling from Benue to Onitsha and a 911 truck laden with sachet water from Enugu to Abakaliki, left multiple passengers dead and many others injured.
Eyewitnesses blamed the Ishieke Police checkpoint for the incident, alleging that officers had partially blocked the road overnight, creating unsafe driving conditions.
The Ishieke axis has long been notorious for such accidents, with residents and commuters repeatedly calling for safer traffic management and stricter enforcement to prevent avoidable tragedies.
Families of the victims are now grieving, while survivors are receiving urgent medical care.
