Anambra Police Rescues Stolen Child, Arrests and Charges Suspects
The Anambra State Police Command has scored a major breakthrough in its fight against child trafficking and sexual offences.
Following an intelligence-led investigation into a case of conspiracy, child stealing, and trafficking, operatives traced and rescued a six-year-old child from an alleged foster parent in Ondo State.
The child has since been safely reunited with his biological mother, while all suspects have been charged in the Children, Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court for prosecution.
In a separate case on 13 August 2025, officers of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acted on a distress call from Ebenebe Community, arresting 18-year-old Uchenna Nweke for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect forced his way into the bathroom where the victim was bathing and had unlawful carnal knowledge of her.
Medical reports have corroborated the allegations.
The suspect is set to be charged in court on 20 August 2025.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, PhD, FWC, MNIPS, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding children and other vulnerable members of society, warning that offenders of such heinous crimes would face the full weight of the law.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, Anambra State Police Command, Awka, said the Command remains determined to protect communities and ensure justice for victims.
