NAWOJ, Plan International Unite To Champion Women’s and Children’s Rights
In a strategic move to strengthen advocacy for women, girls, and vulnerable children, the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with global development organisation Plan International.
The partnership, sealed in Abuja, is focused on promoting gender equality, defending children’s rights, and supporting marginalised groups, including persons with disabilities.
It will be driven through advocacy campaigns, capacity-building for local women’s rights and youth-led organisations, and the use of journalism to amplify voices often left unheard.
NAWOJ National President, Aisha Ibrahim, described the collaboration as “a united vision” to create a society where women and children can thrive.
She emphasised that through the ASPIRE project, both organisations will work to dismantle barriers limiting the potential of women and girls, while also empowering grassroots groups to influence change.
Representing Plan International’s Country Director, Charles Usie, the Director of Programme Quality and Influencing, Helen Idiong, lauded the alliance, noting that “no one can tell a woman’s story better than women themselves.”
With the MoU in place, both organisations say they are poised to scale their impact, using the power of storytelling and advocacy to challenge discrimination and expand opportunities for women, girls, and children nationwide.
