Former PDP National Secretary, Sir Rex Onyeabo, Dies At 80
The family of Sir Rex Chuma Onyeabo, former National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has announced his passing at the age of 80.
In a statement on Thursday, his son, Dr Obiora Onyeabo, said the elder statesman died peacefully on 7 August.
A founding member of the PDP, Sir Onyeabo served as National Secretary in 1999 and remained on the party’s Board of Trustees until his death.
An engineer by training from Carnegie Mellon University, USA, he also held several prestigious chieftaincy titles, including Eze-Ugo I of Abuja Igbo Community and Ada-Idaha of Efik Kingdom.
His public service record spanned both federal and state levels, including roles as Deputy Chairman of the Governing Board of the Federal Capital Development Authority and Permanent Secretary in the Enugu State Ministry of Works, Housing, and Transport.
A devout Catholic and Knight of St Mulumba, Sir Onyeabo was deeply involved in church activities in Abuja and Enugu. The family said funeral arrangements would be announced in due course.
