All Stars Veterans Invitational Heats Up As Gwagwalada, Ex-Pros, USF Seal Knockout Spots Amid Final Group Stage Drama

The All Stars Veterans Invitational Tournament has once again lived up to its billing, delivering an electrifying week of football, shocks, and spectacular goals as Gwagwalada All Stars, Ex-Professionals, and USF confirmed their places in the Round of 16.

They now join early qualifiers Karu All Stars, Apo Fitness All Stars, All Stars International, and Nurudeen FC in the knockout stage, leaving fans eagerly awaiting the final shake-up.

Week Five kicked off with an upset that had tongues wagging and eyebrows raised.

City Gate Sports Club, who had been without a win all tournament, pulled off the unthinkable dismantling previously unbeaten Gwagwalada All Stars in a dramatic 2-1 victory. Emeka Ejima and Emeka Nwaogara found the net in quick succession, punishing defensive lapses from Gwagwalada.

Shagari Baba pulled one back for Gwagwalada, but it proved to be too little, too late.

In the day’s second fixture, USF showed exactly why they’re among the teams to watch. They breezed past Corporate Kickers Sports Club with a comfortable 2-0 scoreline, thanks to sharp finishes from Chigozie Anyigbo and Bright Esomuno.

The result sees USF progress confidently into the next phase of the competition.

For Vera Gold All Stars, however, it was another day to forget. They crumbled under the pressure of a resurgent Games Village FC, suffering a heavy 3-0 defeat that leaves their tournament hopes hanging by a thread.

Games Village, on the other hand, now find themselves in a promising position ahead of the final group stage matches.

Meanwhile, Ex-Professionals continue to dazzle. Arguably the tournament’s most consistent and balanced side, they put on another masterclass, dispatching Capital Sportiff Sports Club with a clinical 4-0 win.

Their movement, cohesion, and technical superiority on the ball were simply unmatched on the day.

Drama was the name of the game in the clash between Zee Michael All Stars and University of Abuja All Stars.

The University side took an early lead and looked set to secure a morale-boosting win, but Zee Michael All Stars dug deep and turned the tide.

Two quickfire goals saw them claw back into the contest and ultimately snatch a thrilling 2-1 win, leaving their opponents shell-shocked.

To wrap up a breathless matchday, Likeminds All Stars and McSteve FC served up a five-goal thriller.

End-to-end action, sublime finishes, and a flurry of chances had spectators fully engaged, with Likeminds narrowly edging it 3-2 in a game that felt like a cup final in itself.

As the group stage edges towards its conclusion, there’s everything to play for. The likes of Games Village FC, Likeminds, and a few others will be glued to the remaining fixtures, hoping results fall in their favour.

With only a handful of spots left in the Round of 16, fans can expect more fireworks, upsets, and edge-of-the-seat moments in the days to come.

One thing is clear: this year’s All Stars Veterans Invitational isn’t just about football—it’s about pride, passion, and the enduring spirit of veterans who still have plenty of flair to offer.
