In a bold move to kick-start the 2025 farming season, the Mayor of Oyi Local Government Area, Hon. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Nweke, has distributed 10,000 hybrid plantain suckers to farmers across the area.

The event, held at the Oyi LGA Council Secretariat, drew a large crowd of farmers, community leaders, and dignitaries who welcomed the gesture with open arms.

The initiative is part of the state-led “Farm to Feed” agenda, championed by Governor Prof. Charles Chukwuma Soludo, and aims to strengthen food security while promoting sustainable agricultural practices.

Speaking at the occasion, Mayor Nweke called on residents to take full advantage of the opportunity. “This isn’t just about plantain suckers; it’s about empowering our people, ensuring food on our tables, and building a stronger Oyi,” he said.

Anchoring the event was Hon. Obiemeka Obinna, the Supervisor for Agriculture, who commended the Mayor for his foresight and unwavering dedication to uplifting local farmers.

The sentiment was echoed by the Head of the Agricultural Department and the HPM of Oyi LGA, who both hailed the Mayor’s commitment to grassroots development.

The distribution ceremony also saw attendance from key stakeholders, including the Deputy Mayor, Hon.
