Supreme Court Upholds Gov Okpebholo’s Election, Dismisses Ighodalo’s Petition
By Kayode Lawal
The Supreme Court has thrown out the petition filed by PDP’s Asue Ighodalo, challenging the election of Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo.
In a unanimous judgment delivered on Thursday, Justice Mohammed Lawal Garba ruled that Ighodalo and the PDP failed to prove allegations of over-voting and non-compliance with the Electoral Act 2022.
The court resolved four out of five contentious issues against the petitioners, describing the case as lacking merit and substance.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Okpebholo, and the All Progressives Congress (APC) were each awarded costs for the litigation.
With this ruling, the apex court has effectively sealed Governor Okpebholo’s mandate.
