Africa’s First Digital Parliamentary Summit Opens In Lusaka, Sets Agenda For A Smarter Continent
The first-ever Africa Digital Parliamentary Summit has officially commenced in Lusaka, bringing together lawmakers, researchers, and digital experts from across the continent to chart a bold, evidence-based course for Africa’s digital future.
The three-day high-level engagement is a collaborative effort between the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), the Africa Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC), and global mobile industry association, GSMA.
Together, they are working to strengthen digital policymaking through research, innovation, and strategic collaboration.
Delegates include members of PAP committees covering Transport, Industry, Communications, Energy, Science and Technology, Health, Labour, and Social Affairs.
Also in attendance are representatives from African Union organs, academic researchers, and tech policy specialists.
Key topics on the table include the growing role of artificial intelligence, digital health innovations, and the governance of data on the continent.
Participants will also dissect the latest Africa Digital Health and Smart Manufacturing reports, jointly developed by APHRC and GSMA, to shape inclusive and future-ready legislation.
The summit provides a platform for African Parliamentarians from all five regions to engage deeply with digital trends, ensuring that Africa is not just a consumer of technology but also a driver of homegrown innovation.
The Lusaka summit is expected to culminate in key resolutions and recommendations that will inform legislative action and policy frameworks aimed at accelerating Africa’s transformation into a digitally empowered continent.
