Labour Party Stalwart, Over 1,000 PDP and APC Members Defect to APGA in Ekwulumili

Ekwulumili, Anambra – In a major political shift ahead of future elections, a prominent Labour Party (LP) figure, Chief Dr Valentine Mbamalu, led over 1,000 members of the Labour Party, All Progressives Congress (APC), and People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) during a lively mini rally in Ekwulumili Ward, Nnewi South Local Government Area, on Saturday, 5th July 2025.
The mass defection was warmly received by the APGA Ward Chairman, Mr Cosmos Ezeani, in the presence of the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, Dr OnyekaChukwu Ibezim, and an array of high-ranking party officials and political leaders.
Among the dignitaries present were former Nnewi South 1 Constituency House of Assembly member, Hon. Sony F. Ozobialu (Mmilimalugo), Ekwulumili Ward Councillor and Deputy Leader of the Nnewi South Legislative Council, Hon. Venantius C. Okeke, and the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Engr. Felix Odumegbu.
Also in attendance were Hon. Barrister Kingsley Iruba, Mayor of Nnewi South, Hon. Van George Chinedu Ezeogidi (Ijele Utuh), Deputy Mayor, Hon. Mrs Nneka Ileka, former Transition Committee Chairman Hon. Chieloka Okoye, APGA South Vice Chairman Chief Ewuzie, Hon. Nnanna Nzewi, and APGA State Youth Leader Hon. Tochukwu Obiadi.
Adding more energy to the event were State ASATU Youth Leader, Hon. Ken Okoli, State APGA Women Leader, Mrs Esther Onyekesi, Nnewi South APGA Chairman Mr Azubuike, Women Leader Mrs Nkoli Okafor, and Mr Azubuike Osuchukwu, among many other grassroots mobilisers.
The defection marks a significant boost for APGA in Nnewi South and is being seen as a clear signal of growing confidence in the party’s grassroots strength and political direction across Anambra State.
