Police Nab Two Over Cement Diversion Scam Spanning Four States
The Anambra State Police Command has arrested two suspected fraudsters linked to a cement diversion syndicate operating across Anambra, Edo, Rivers, and Delta States.
The suspects, identified as Mmaduabuchi Udo and Abubakar Babangida, were picked up in Abuja on 23rd June 2025 by the Command’s CP Monitoring Unit following an intelligence-driven operation.
According to the police, the duo exploited social media platforms to identify and profile cement dealers, extracting sensitive business details from unsuspecting victims.
They then allegedly used this information to intercept and divert cement consignments meant for legitimate buyers.
Police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the arrest was part of ongoing efforts to tackle economic and cyber crimes, warning businesses to exercise caution when sharing operational information online.
“The suspects are cooperating with investigators and have provided leads to help uncover other members of the syndicate. They will be charged to court once investigations are concluded,” Ikenga said.
The Commissioner of Police reiterated the Command’s resolve to protect lives and economic interests across Anambra and urged the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity to security authorities.
