Nigeria Police Rescue 12 Trafficked Children, Recover Arms Cache In Coordinated Operations
In a bold show of force and precision, the Nigeria Police have dealt a decisive blow to child trafficking and illegal arms smuggling a testament to growing momentum in the country’s fight against organised crime.
The Nigeria Police Force, in a major breakthrough, rescued twelve trafficked children and recovered a significant cache of illegal firearms in coordinated operations across Abia and Kogi States.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers in Abia State arrested two suspects, Blessing Emebo, 49, and Sunday Emebo, 42, who were operating an unregistered and illegal motherless babies’ home from their residence in Aba.
Twelve children, aged between six months and fourteen years and reportedly taken from villages around Arochukwu, were found and swiftly handed over to the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs for care and rehabilitation.
Meanwhile, in Kogi State, police intercepted a suspicious vehicle that evaded a checkpoint.
A high-speed chase ensued, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle and flee.
A search of the vehicle uncovered five AK-47 rifles, eight magazines, and over 340 rounds of assorted ammunition.
The suspect remains at large, but early intelligence links the arms to a recent robbery at a Kabba petrol station.
Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, praised the swift actions of the officers involved and reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to public safety, urging citizens to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities.
A statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, quoted the IGP as saying, “These operations highlight our zero tolerance for child exploitation and armed criminality,”.
