Establishment of FRSC: A Game-Changer in Nigeria’s Road Safety Landscape – Emir of Lafia
The Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs and Emir of Lafia, Honourable Justice Sidi Bage Mohammad I (Rtd), has described the establishment of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) as a monumental achievement and a turning point in Nigeria’s journey towards safer roads.
The royal commendation was delivered during a working visit by the Corps Marshal of the FRSC, Shehu Mohammed, to Nasarawa State for the official flag-off of a nationwide special patrol operation aptly tagged Operation Sanity.
The Emir did not mince words praising the agency, noting that its establishment in 1988 marked a watershed moment in Nigeria’s security and safety architecture.
“The FRSC remains the best thing that has happened to Nigeria,” he said. “Its relentless efforts have not only brought hope to millions but have significantly reduced road crashes and fatalities across the nation.”
According to the Emir, the Corps has demonstrated exceptional innovation and dedication, standing out among security agencies for its consistency in promoting public safety. He lauded the organisation’s unique blend of community engagement, public education, and enforcement which, he said, has redefined how road safety is approached in Nigeria.
In response, Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed expressed deep appreciation for the traditional council’s enduring support. He emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility that requires the collective effort of all Nigerians.
“We are encouraged by the royal father’s objective and uplifting words. The FRSC remains committed to building safer roads for all, and we urge Nigerians to join hands with us in adhering to traffic regulations and promoting responsible road use,” the Corps Marshal stated.
He reiterated the agency’s resolve to continue pushing boundaries in road safety innovation, assuring that the FRSC’s legacy would remain a beacon for future generations.
The visit and endorsement come at a critical time as the FRSC intensifies efforts to curb road traffic violations, particularly during the Operation Sanity campaign, which seeks to address reckless driving and ensure discipline on Nigerian highways.
