In the early hours of 27 May 2025, troops of Operation HADIN KAI successfully repelled a daring attack by Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists in New Marte, Borno State, killing scores of insurgents in a fierce gun battle.
The foiled assault saw ground troops swiftly reinforced by the 24 Task Force Brigade Garrison and the 134 Special Forces Battalion, who engaged the attackers with heavy fire.
The Air Component of OPHK provided critical Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR), along with precise offensive strikes that decimated fleeing terrorists.
Tragically, two soldiers lost their lives in the line of duty.
During a mop-up operation, troops recovered a Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) SUV abandoned by the fleeing insurgents, as well as destroyed several motorcycles used for the attack.
Lifeless bodies and blood trails littered the withdrawal route, indicating further terrorist casualties.
In a related incident, terrorists attempting to breach the Forward Operating Base at Kumshe were met with fierce resistance, suffering additional losses.
A statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, Operation HADIN KAI Headquarters, Captain Reuben Kovangiya, described the operations as a testament to the renewed jointness and team spirit among troops, reaffirming their commitment to denying terrorists any freedom of action and restoring peace and economic stability in the North East.
