Tinubu’s Reforms Powering Nigeria’s Economic Renewal – Minister Idris
Nigeria’s Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has asserted that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda is steering the country towards a new era of economic renewal, anchored on bold reforms, strategic investments, and inclusive governance.
Addressing delegates at the 2025 Nigeria Public Relations Week in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, the Minister highlighted the administration’s sweeping policy measures from the removal of fuel subsidies to the unification of exchange rates as the bedrock of what he described as Nigeria’s most significant economic transformation in decades.
While acknowledging the initial challenges posed by these reforms, Idris pointed to emerging indicators of progress, including greater exchange rate stability, rising government revenues, growing domestic refining capacity, and accelerated infrastructure development.
He revealed that over ₦2.5 trillion has been committed to road projects in 2025 alone — the highest annual investment in Nigeria’s history.
The Minister also spotlighted milestone initiatives such as the launch of NELFUND to support students, the establishment of CreditCorp to enhance consumer access to credit, and an injection of over $450 million into Compressed Natural Gas infrastructure.
Citing the latest economic data, Idris announced a decline in headline inflation to 23.71% in April 2025, attributing the improvement to what he termed President Tinubu’s “deliberate and impactful” policy direction.
Urging public relations practitioners to serve as ambassadors of the nation’s economic resurgence, the Minister emphasised that beyond the statistics lie compelling narratives of national revival and growth.
He also commended the President of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Dr Ike Neliaku, on his recent international appointment, reaffirming the ministry’s dedication to a unified and strategic national communication agenda through the newly unveiled National Strategic Communication Framework.
