Nigeria’s Foreign Minister Hails Election of Pope Leo XIV, Congratulates Catholics Worldwide
Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has congratulated Catholics around the world following the election of Pope Leo XIV as the new head of the Roman Catholic Church.
In a statement released on Friday, Tuggar described the election of the new pontiff as a “momentous and historic occasion,” offering prayers for wisdom and strength as Pope Leo XIV begins his sacred mission.
He noted that as a nation with a significant Catholic population, Nigeria celebrates this milestone with the global Catholic community,” adding that the country looks forward to strengthening ties with the Holy See and working together to advance interfaith dialogue, justice, and unity.
Minister Tuggar expressed confidence that the new Pope will lead with compassion, humility, and a deep commitment to the spiritual well-being of humanity.
