Nigerian Bishops Congratulate Newly Elected Pope Leo XIV

The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) has extended heartfelt congratulations to the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, following the announcement of his elevation to the papacy.
In a message signed by CBCN President, Most Rev. Lucius Ugorji, and made available through the National Director of Social Communications, Very Rev. Fr. Michael Nsikak Umoh, the bishops expressed their joy and prayerful support for the new Pontiff.
They described Pope Leo XIV as a man of deep spirituality and pastoral commitment, whose leadership is expected to bring renewed hope to the global Church.
They expressed confidence that under his guidance, the Church will continue to be a beacon of light in a troubled world.
The CBCN also assured the Holy Father of the fervent prayers of Nigerian Catholics, expressing hope that his papacy will foster unity, peace, and justice across nations.
Pope Leo XIV succeeds Pope Francis, becoming the 267th Pope in the history of the Catholic Church.
