Nuclear Safety: WINS Executive Director Visits ECOWAS To Strengthen Cooperation

In a bid to foster regional collaboration on nuclear safety, training, and strategic technologies, the Executive Director of the World Institute for Nuclear Security (WINS), Dr. Lars van Dassen, recently paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Commission in Abuja.

The visit focused on advancing the use of nuclear technology for development in key sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, and energy.

During the meeting, both parties discussed ways to enhance regional capacity and ensure responsible innovation, with a particular emphasis on policy harmonisation and the secure management of sensitive materials in non-industrial and non-defence contexts.

This partnership aligns with ECOWAS Vision 2050, which champions human security, sustainable development, and technological resilience across the West African region.

The meeting signals a promising future for collaboration on specialised training and regulatory governance, aiming to meet the growing development needs of West African citizens.
