…Receives Torch of Unity for 2025 National Sports Festival
In a colorful ceremony marked by singing, drumming, and dancing, Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, on Monday, April 28, 2025, received the Unity Torch for the forthcoming 2025 National Sports Festival, scheduled to take place in Ogun State.
Receiving the symbolic torch at the Government House, Owerri, before a lively audience of sports enthusiasts, officials of the National Sports Commission, and members of the Imo State Sports Council, Governor Uzodimma described sports as a critical platform for fostering unity across Nigeria’s diverse states.
“Sports have always been a bridge connecting our different cultures, backgrounds, and aspirations. It is a powerful platform to promote national unity,” the Governor said, emphasising the importance of the festival beyond the medals.
Uzodimma seized the moment to charge Team Imo to uphold the state’s proud legacy of sporting excellence.
He urged the athletes to approach the festival with determination and a winning spirit.
“Go and win, and win, and win, to the glory of God,” he challenged the contingents, rallying them to make Imo proud by bringing home a harvest of gold medals.
Earlier, the Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, handed over the Unity Torch to the Team Leader from the National Sports Commission, Ms. Mbora Ikana, who then officially presented it to the Governor.
Dignitaries present at the event included the Deputy Governor, Lady Chinyere Ekomaru, the Chief of Staff, Barr. Nnamdi Anyaehie, and other members of the State’s Expanded Executive Council.
The Unity Torch’s journey through Imo State serves as a call to action for all citizens to rally behind their athletes, as Imo prepares to make its mark once again on the national stage.
