The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has strongly condemned the brutal terrorist attack that struck the Republic of Benin on April 17, 2025, claiming several lives and leaving many injured.
In a press release issued in English, French, and Portuguese, the ECOWAS Commission expressed deep shock and dismay over what it described as a “barbaric and cowardly act” aimed at spreading terror and destabilizing the region.
While details of the attack remain scarce, the regional body reaffirmed its commitment to supporting Benin and other member states in their fight against terrorism and violent extremism.
ECOWAS called for unity among West African nations and emphasised the need for strengthened collaboration to ensure peace and security across the sub-region.
