UniAbuja, Zhengzhou University to Partner on Architecture, Green Technology – Esuabana
In a bid to tackle Nigeria’s housing deficit and revive indigenous architectural heritage, the University of Abuja is set to collaborate with Zhengzhou University and Shenzhen University of China to establish a Faculty of Architecture.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Innovation, Science and Technology, Mrs. Esuabana Nko Asanye, made this known during a courtesy visit by a delegation from Chinese higher institutions in Abuja.
She highlighted that the partnership would not only strengthen architectural education in Nigeria but also promote green and low-carbon technologies such as energy-efficient designs, building-integrated photovoltaics, and renewable energy which are key components for sustainable construction in Nigeria.
Mrs. Esuabana praised the initiative as a strategic move to Modernise Nigeria’s construction sector while preserving its cultural identity.
Leader of the Chinese delegation, Cao-Di, representing Zhengzhou University, noted that their School of Architecture, established in 1958 offers deep expertise in Architecture, Urban and Rural Planning, and Landscape Architecture.
She expressed confidence that the collaboration would drive socio-economic progress in Nigeria through knowledge sharing and capacity development.
