Directors at the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare have been urged to champion effective service delivery and strategic succession planning to sustain Nigeria’s healthcare gains.
The Permanent Secretary, Daju Kachollom, gave the charge at the 2025 Retreat for Directors held in Enugu State, with the theme “Strengthening Leadership for Effective and Efficient Health and Social Welfare Governance.”
Kachollom emphasised that strong leadership is essential for aligning individual performance with national development goals.
She encouraged Directors to embrace ongoing reforms under the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan (2021–2025), particularly the new Performance Management System designed to measure individual and collective contributions.
The retreat also focused on strategic planning, fostering teamwork, and enhancing communication.
According to the Permanent Secretary, mentoring and succession planning are critical to ensuring continuity and sustained impact in the Ministry’s operations.
A statement signed by the Deputy Director, Information & Public Relations, Alaba Balogun, notes presentations by Directors highlighted practical solutions to existing challenges, underscoring the Ministry’s commitment to building a results-driven leadership culture.
