It was a gathering filled with warmth, history, and shared dreams as Nigeria and Venezuela marked 60 years of diplomatic ties at a colourful event that resonated with the echoes of six decades of partnership.

From the speeches, it was clear that this is not just a relationship defined by agreements inked on paper, but one nurtured by common struggles, mutual respect, and a shared vision for a more prosperous future.

The Nigerian government reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening ties with Venezuela, particularly by establishing direct flight connections between the two nations to drive economic growth.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Ambassador Dunoma Ahmed, that spoke on behalf of Nigeria, highlighted the mutual benefits of cooperation, particularly in oil and gas sector, where both nations are major players on the global stage stressing the importance of building on the long-standing partnership.

According to the Nigeria side, strengthening ties with Venezuela, would open doors for greater socio-economic development and enhance strategies to tackle global challenges affecting both Africa and Latin America.

Venezuelan Ambassador to Nigeria and the ECOWAS, Alberto Padilla, on his part, is optimistic that deepening bilateral cooperation would foster multilateral partnerships that transcend borders.

With a shared vision for prosperity, Nigeria and Venezuela are setting the stage for a new era of economic and diplomatic engagement, that will bring tangible benefits to their citizens and strengthen ties between their respective continents.
