For years, the Funtua-Gusau Road has been a corridor of fear, plagued by relentless bandit attacks that have left communities devastated and travelers at the mercy of ruthless criminals.

For this, the Nigerian military has fought tirelessly to reclaim this vital route, and now, a decisive airstrike has turned the tide against the terror that once thrived in the shadows of Katsina’s rugged terrain.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF), delivered a crushing blow to criminal elements operating in Katsina State.

In the early hours of March 13, 2025, the Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma launched precision airstrikes on notorious bandit hideouts in the Unguwar Goga Hillforest, Ruwan Godiya Ward, Faskari Local Government Area.

The operation, guided by precise intelligence, targeted the fortified camps of notorious bandit leaders, Alhaji Riga and Gero (Alhaji), whose groups had long terrorised travelers along the Funtua-Gusau Road.

The strikes neutralised over 20 bandits, with more casualties reported in the surrounding rocky hills.

Riga and Gero played a pivotal role in the region’s insecurity, sheltering terrorist elements responsible for repeated ambushes between Yankara and Sheme villages.

Their elimination signals a major breakthrough in ongoing efforts to restore peace to the North-West.

The NAF, working in close coordination with ground forces, has reaffirmed its commitment to dismantling all bandit strongholds and ensuring that Katsina and surrounding areas are no longer safe havens for criminal elements.
