As West Africa strives for food security and agricultural sustainability, the role of knowledge and technology in transforming the sector has never been more critical.

In a significant step towards modernising agricultural education, the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) recently hosted a Validation Workshop for the conceptual design and software requirements of the ECOWAP e-Learning Platform.

The workshop held in Niger State, Nigeria, brought together over 50 key stakeholders, including agricultural experts, policymakers, IT specialists, and representatives from the ECOWAS Commission’s Directorate of Agriculture and Rural Development, as well as the Regional Agency for Agriculture and Food in Togo.

The ECOWAP e-Learning Platform is a key component of ECOWAS’ Agricultural Policy, aimed at enhancing access to knowledge, improving monitoring and evaluation, and strengthening the region’s capacity for innovation in food production and rural development.

Participants at the workshop assessed the platform’s design and technical requirements, ensuring it aligns with the region’s agricultural needs.

By integrating digital learning into West Africa’s agricultural framework, ECOWAS is paving the way for a more informed and technologically equipped generation of farmers, experts, and policymakers that are essential for achieving sustainable food production and economic growth.
