For years, the families of fallen police officers have faced uncertainty, waiting for their rightful insurance benefits amid bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Today, at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, a significant step towards change unfolded as the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, took a bold step to ease their burdens.

At the event marked with mixed feelings, the IGP presented insurance benefit cheques to the next of kin of 706 fallen officers.

This latest disbursement, amounting to N2.99 billion, covers policy years 2020–2024 and brings the total payout under the scheme to N20.84 billion, benefiting 7,171 families.

Also in a bid to enhance transparency and efficiency, the IGP also unveiled the Nigeria Police Insurance Claims Management Portal (npfinsuranceclaimsmgt.ng), a digital platform designed to streamline insurance processing, eliminate delays, and ensure seamless access to benefits.

To further strengthen the system, insurance desk officers across 17 Zonal Commands and 37 State Commands will undergo specialised training for effective claims management.

The IGP reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to the welfare of both serving and retired officers, assuring that the sacrifices of Nigeria’s police personnel are not forgotten.
