Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, has raised the alarm over fraudulent online schemes falsely linked to her name.
She has urged the public to disregard any social media offers or financial requests claiming her endorsement.
The minister’s warning follows reports of scammers creating fake social media accounts in her name, promoting bogus empowerment programmes, trade exhibitions, and agricultural grants to defraud unsuspecting individuals.
“I have no hand in these platforms. Whoever is dealing with them is doing so at their own peril,” she cautioned, emphasising that her only verified social media accounts are Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu on Facebook and biancaodumegwuojukwu on Instagram.
She particularly warned against messages promoting fake intervention grants, which ask victims to contact a supposed official and make payments to access funds.
Nigerians, including those in the diaspora, have already lost significant amounts to these fraudsters.
Amb. Odumegwu-Ojukwu reaffirmed that she does not conduct government business via social media and urged the public to verify any suspicious messages through her Special Assistant on Communication and New Media via WhatsApp at 08033223554 or email majeze1969@gmail.com.
