Fear and speculation swept through social media on Monday as rumours surfaced about the alleged return of the disbanded Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

However, the Nigeria Police Force has firmly dismissed these claims, reiterating that SARS remains dissolved.

In a statement released by Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police urged Nigerians to disregard any misinformation suggesting a comeback of the controversial unit.

The statement stressed the need for citizens to verify information before spreading panic.

“SARS was disbanded on October 11, 2020, and remains dissolved,” the statement read. “Any claim about its reformation should be treated with caution.”

The police encouraged the public to follow their official social media handles—@PoliceNG on X, @ngpolice on Facebook, and @nigeriapoliceforce on Instagram—for accurate updates.

As Nigerians remain on high alert for credible security information, authorities continue to stress the importance of vigilance and fact-checking in an era where misinformation spreads rapidly.
