The Chairman, House Committee on Sports, Honourable Kabiru Amadu, has applauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his transformative approach to sports funding in the 2025 budget.
Speaking during a budget defense session on Tuesday at the National Assembly in Abuja, Honourable Amadu highlighted the significant increase in the sports sector’s allocation from N29 billion in 2024 to over N94 billion in 2025—a staggering 227% increment.
Describing the move as a “giant stride,” Honourable Amadu expressed optimism that the increased funding would address pressing issues in Nigeria’s sports sector, including decaying infrastructure, insufficient funding for over 40 sports federations, and the lack of development plans and manpower training.
He assured stakeholders, including the National Sports Commission (NSC), the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), and the National Institute for Sports, of the National Assembly’s unwavering support in ensuring the effective disbursement and utilization of the funds.
“The House Committee on Sports is committed to ensuring that these funds are accessed seamlessly, paving the way for grassroots sports development and the overall growth of the sector,” Honourable Amadu said.
