The Ulakwo Elite Circle Club of Ulakwo community in Owerri north LGA which is home to most prominent sons and daughters of the community and has led the community’s developmental efforts over the years, has embarked on a groundbreaking project of constructing a club civic center which promises, among many things, to transform the community in various ways and position it for more growth and development.
With the main agenda of this year’s annual golden gala nite which took place on January 3 titled, ‘N200 million Civic Center Project Fundraising ‘, the President of the club, Sir John Ekeanya informed that the club’s gala nite which started 5 years ago had become an annual ritual for the members.
Sir John Ekeanya observed that the aim of the gala nite had always been to interact with members both within the country and in the diaspora, as well as to invite potential members and motivate them to join the club.
He stated that this year’s event was aimed at fundraising for the club civic center project and to issue certificates of revalidation to active and financial members.
The president thanked the members of the planning committee led by Comrade Hector Nnadi for making the occasion successful.
He also thanked the elders of the club and all who had contributed in any way towards the success of the gala nite and making the Ulakwo Elite Circle Club great.
To new members, Sir John Ekeanya informed that the club was founded on discipline, integrity and comment.
Also speaking, the second Vice president/Chairman of the Planning Committee, Comrade Hector Nnadi noted that the club was overdue for a befitting center that should house the Ulakwo Elite Circle Club.
Interacting with newsmen at the end of the event, the club president, Sir John Ekeanya disclosed that the idea of the civic center project came about as members started looking inward for something to identify them.
Sir Ekeanya reeled out a catalogue of achievements of the Ulakwo Elite Circle Club such as provision of transformers for electricity. He also expectantly stated that the club civic center, at completion, would provide employment opportunities for the people and also add to the beauty of the community.
The fundraising event which was described as the first phase of the project was largely successful with an amount of money that surpassed the expectation of many, realized.
