Police Rescues Four Hostages, Arrests 17 For Murder In Separate Operations

Operatives of the Imo State Police Command in a show of bravery and swift action, rescued four kidnapped hostages on Saturday, January 4, 2025, in Umuokanne, Ohaji LGA.
Acting on a distress call, the officers engaged the kidnappers in a fierce gun battle, neutralising two of the suspects and recovering an AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 21 rounds of live ammunition.
The hostages were rescued unharmed, underscoring the police’s commitment to public safety.
Meanwhile, in Ebonyi State, 17 suspects were arrested on January 3, 2025, in Enohia Itim village, Afikpo LGA, for the brutal killing of Uromchi Okorocha.
The suspects, accusing him of witchcraft, bypassed legal channels and resorted to jungle justice, killed and burnt the victim before police operatives could intervene.
Condemning the act, the Inspector-General of Police Kayode Egbetokun, called for an end to mob actions, urging citizens to report suspected crimes to the authorities.
He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s dedication to justice and public safety, calling for public cooperation in building a secure society.
