Bitaro Community Appeals for Completion of Abandoned Bridge Project
By Hosea Parah, Abuja
Residents of Bitaro and Ugwan Rana in Jaba Local Government Area have urged Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, to prioritise the completion of an abandoned bridge project that has left their communities isolated for nearly three years.
President of the Kwoi Youth Progressive Association (KWOYOPA), Comrade Aminu Bako, voiced the community’s distress over the dire consequences of the unfinished bridge.
The isolation caused by the collapsed bridge has led to rising crime rates, including three rape cases and five motorcycle thefts, and has tragically claimed the lives of pregnant women and babies due to delayed access to medical care.
The bridge, which collapsed in 2018, resulting in two deaths, was awarded to Habibu Engineering Nigeria Limited in 2022 but was abandoned the same year.
The incomplete project has rendered the road impassable, especially during the rainy season, disrupting transportation and essential services.
Bako appealed to Governor Sani, to urgently address the issue, emphasising the bridge’s importance for the safety, connectivity, and prosperity of the affected communities.
Residents remain hopeful that the governor’s intervention will revive the project and alleviate their suffering.
