Police Assures Readiness for Ondo State Gubernatorial Elections, Bans Vigilante Groups

As the November 16, 2024, gubernatorial election in Ondo State approaches, the Inspector-General of Police, Dr. Kayode Egbetokun, has confirmed that the Nigeria Police Force is fully prepared to secure a peaceful and orderly voting process across the state.
He said comprehensive security plans have been deployed, involving specialised units like the Special Intervention Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit, and Police Mobile Force, alongside advanced resources such as aerial patrols and gunboat surveillance for riverine areas.
The IGP in the strongest terms, warned political thugs and troublemakers of severe repercussions if they attempt to disrupt the elections, emphasising that law enforcement agents will show zero tolerance for violence.
Egbetokun, revealed that quasi-security groups, including local vigilante forces and Amotekun, have been banned from participating, and underscored that election security is the exclusive duty of federal agencies.
