The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 130 individuals, including 113 foreign nationals of Chinese and Malaysian origin, and 17 Nigerians, for alleged involvement in high-profile cybercrimes, hacking, and activities deemed a potential threat to national security.

The raid, conducted in Abuja’s Jahi district near the Next Cash and Carry area, targeted a building reportedly equipped with sophisticated computer systems and devices used to facilitate illicit operations.

The raid led by Assistant Inspector-General of Police for Zone 7, Abuja, AIG Benneth Igweh, coordinated operation involving officers from the Nigeria Police Force Zone 7 Command and the National Cyber Crime Centre (NPF-NCCC).

This proactive action underscores the police’s commitment to combating cybercrime and protecting national security from digital threats.

According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the police are intensively investigating the case and meticulously analysing the seized exhibits to determine the extent of the suspects’ involvement. “We are investigating the matter and scientifically analysing the exhibits recovered from them,” Adejobi stated.

“The suspects will be charged to court upon the conclusion of our investigations.”

The Inspector-General of Police has ordered a thorough investigation into the network’s operations, focusing on potential security risks posed by their alleged activities. As the investigation unfolds, the public will be kept informed of significant developments and outcomes.

This latest crackdown goes to show that Nigeria has strengthened her resolve to curb cybercriminal activities, particularly those with international linkages, in a bid to maintaining national security and upholding digital integrity.
